Meet Yvonne
I grew up in Morgan Hill, this community built me. Now, I am excited to announce with years of experience as Councilwoman, my candidacy for Morgan Hill Mayor!
I am running for Mayor because now more than ever, we need someone who stands up for Morgan Hill. I care about public safety, preserving the essence of Morgan Hill, and securing the economic strength and direction of our city for everyone. As a proud local, I am excited to announce my candidacy for Mayor of our hometown. I believe that my deep roots in this community and my experience in local leadership make me the ideal candidate to serve our city. Together, we can continue to a bright future for our beloved hometown.
I am serving in my 6th year as a Councilwoman in Morgan Hill and served for 2 years on the Planning Commission prior. I am a mother to three daughters, an Urban Planner and a Small Business Owner. Raised in Morgan Hill, my family has been here over 40 years. I attended Morgan Hill schools, played Spirit Softball and graduated from Live Oak High School. I earned a Bachelors in International Business from SDSU and a Master's at the NYU Wagner School of Public Service in Urban Planning specializing in Housing and Economic Development.
My policy leads with inclusion, equity and engaging community: seniors, families, and youth, collaborating with all our community. I am committed to our public safety, which is why I called for our key police and fire needs- funding additional officers and the staffing, equipment and building of our 3rd firehouse to be prioritized and funded in budget allocations. My efforts initiated the PERT and the Housing Specialist position that both support our PD. When COVID hit, I worked tirelessly to bring testing, vaccinations, funding, and resources to Morgan Hill. We need to be ready for the next emergency.
My strength is having a deep understanding of the state and local levers and having built over years of service the relationships needed to deliver results to Morgan Hill. Priorities:
-
Housing - Continue meeting state requirements to maintain local control, and support affordable, sustainable housing for future generations.
-
Public Safety - Continue supporting our public safety departments to ensure they have what they need to maintain our public safety.
-
Financial Sustainability - Responsible use of City funds and resources.
-
Economic Development - Support existing businesses and attract new ones offering strategic opportunities in tourism, healthcare and manufacturing. Focus on those providing diverse employment, looking for a win-win partnership, elevating the look and feel of Morgan Hill.
-
Community and Recreation - Meaningful activities for the community to come together, kids activities, Viva Calles.
-
Infrastructure & Transportation - Advance the Recycled Water Masterplan, maintain our roads, continue advocating for 101 HOV lanes, additional VTA service, and expanded Micro Transit.
"My deep roots in this community and my experience in local leadership make me the ideal candidate to serve our city. Together, we can continue to a bright future for our beloved hometown."
